Critter of the Week Alpine Wolf Spider

An alpine wolf spider called Anoteropsis alpina. They are called wolf spiders as they run down their prey like wild dogs or wolves! Known for their excellent hunting abilities, they are a top predator in the alpine zone, eating around 5 to 15 insects a day.

Doc's Nicola Toki says they also carry their spiderlings around on their backs - check out the pictures below to see this in action.
