Crimes NZ: David Tamihere and the Swedish backpacker murders

From Afternoons, 2:30 pm on 7 May 2020

Just over 30 years ago, two Swedish tourists went missing in the Coromandel during a tramping trip.

David Tamihere was convicted in 1990 of the murders of Urban Hӧglin and Heidi Paakkonen - and served 20 years - but he has always maintained his innocence.

Last month, it was announced that Tamihere's murder convictions have been referred back to the Court of Appeal.

We speak to investigative reporter Donna Chisholm, who has covered the story in depth throughout the years.
