Are the humanities under attack?

From Afternoons with Jesse Mulligan, 1:17 pm on 21 February 2020

The Ministry of Education announced some major changes to the way NCEA will run.The proposals announced changes to the subjects available at NCEA level 1.

Under the proposals Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Earth and Space Science, and Science will be replaced by one single Science subject and Economics, Business Studies and Accounting will be replaced by Commerce.

The arts are also impacted. Latin, Classical Studies and Art History would all disappear form level 1.

Dean of Arts at the University of Auckland Professor Robert Greenberg is concerned this is another step toward chipping back the role arts and humanities have in education in Aoteaora.
