Christmas reading recommendations

It's starting to get quite close to Christmas now! Books can make excellent presents but sometimes it can feel a little daunting knowing what to get for the individuals in your life. RNZ producer and former bookseller Robert Kelly is back in the booth to give some quick fire recommendations.

Books Recommended 

  • Book recommendations for a male, aged 29 who is interested in WW2 especially from an espionage type angle? The Karla Trilogy and Call for the Dead by John Le Carre OR Trinity by Louisa Hall.
  • 31yr old daughter. Not much of a reader, couldn't finish the luminaries, said was boring. interested in History. Non fiction. Short attention span. Likes true crime. Silence of the Girls by Pat Barker OR Underground Railroad by Colson Whitehead 
  • My husband has always been an avid reader. However, this year his renal condition has deteriorated. He used to complete 1000  piece puzzles, and read a book a week. Lately  his interest in reading has dropped off . Previously he read sci fi and mystery books. The Eyre Affair by Jasper Fforde. 
  • How do I buy a present for my mum who is a high school English teacher? It's tough buying a book for someone who reads for a job. Blood, Bones and Butter by Gabrielle Hamilton OR Hicksville by Dylan Horrocks.
