And he won. Effortlessly.
It was 1985 and Lange's opponent was TV evangelist Rev. Jerry Falwell.
That speech had a big impact on the world - we were such a young nation to be suddenly punching so far above our weight in geopolitics and refusing nuclear weapons
Michael Bassett was Health Minister in The Fourth Labour government and he is Lange's distant cousin.
