Gretel: 'Catch Me If You Can'

From Afternoons, 1:10 pm on 11 September 2018

The top bands and singers from high schools around New Zealand will perform their original songs in the Smokefree Rock Quest national finals on 22 September.

Rangitoto High School student Gretel Donnelly (who goes by Gretel) was the North Shore regional winner in the Solo-Duo category.

She tells Jesse Mulligan she's been singing since she could talk and performing in musicals since she was five.

When she was younger, Gretel learnt bass guitar from a music teacher, but then moved over to the keyboards, which she taught herself.

She now performs with music software on her laptop, a MIDI keyboard (on which she can play synthesisers, bass or keyboards) and a sequencer.

Gretel says she had a great time performing at the North Shore regional finals and is excited for the grand final on 22 September.

"I love the lights on me."
