Writing for freedom

From Afternoons, 1:26 pm on 31 August 2018

Earlier this month the Edinburgh International Book Festival kicked into gear with events including over 900 authors and illustrators. But twelve of them had to battle British immigration services to get visas so they could attend.

They were all from African, Eastern European and Middle Eastern countries. This frustrated the director of the festival Nick Barley, and he joined forces with Gutter Magazine to publish a collection of authors from around the world writing about liberty.

The result is the Freedom Papers - Nick is in New Zealand for the Word Christchurch festival and joins me to talk about the papers now.
