Donald Trump has walked back the USA's policy of separating children from their families if their parents are found to be entering the country illegally.
This follows public outrage at the practice, including powerful images and audio of crying and bereft children.
But the political activist and refugee advocate Ian Rintoul says Trump-esque policies around refugee children having been going on for more than a decade on New Zealand's own doorstep.
