Music Feature: Jazz arrives in New Zealand

From Afternoons with Jesse Mulligan, 2:22 pm on 1 May 2018

Jazz arrived on our shores in 1922 - but it took a while to catch on.

Music historian, Dr Aleisha Ward takes us back to those early days, and the music that started filtering its way to New Zealand and begin to influence our own sounds.

Dr Ward is an award-winning writer, freelance editor, and lecturer in music history. She writes about jazz in New Zealand for a number of publications.
