New Zealand's cheerleaders

From Afternoons, 1:38 pm on 29 March 2018

When we think of cheerleading our minds are usually filled with scenes from American football movies.

But it may surprise you to know New Zealand has four teams that have qualified for the World Cheerleading Champs in the states next month, facing off against 70 other countries.

A junior contingent is going along this year for the first time, with athletes as young as 12 competing.

We'll ask the founder of All Star Cheerleaders, Kimberley Ramsay, about the country's interest in the sport and talk to young athlete Cameron Ramsay-Gibbons, about playing his last world championship.
