Paul Earnshaw from Cycle Higher is playing match-maker today and told Jesse Mulligan it’s a twist on the classic speed dating scenario

“You get a few minutes with a prospective partner but we throw bicycles into the mix and go out around the Queenstown gardens for a couple of hours, then we end up at the hotel next door for a cheeky cocktail.”

He says it’s not on tandem bikes, everyone brings their own bike and cycles side by side. Ladies in one line, men in another. An organiser with a bell rings it every few minutes and the ladies stay cycling in one place, the men have to put on a burst of speed to move to the next prospective partner.

“It’s a real mixture of locals and visitors, Queenstown being an international town. I think it’s just a great alternative to online dating, you’re actually in a physical space rather than looking at a screen or swiping left or right.

“For a start you’re both on bicycles” says Paul. “So you know there’s a shared interest, there’s some commonality to talk about from the offset.”
