Combatting Doctor Stress

From Afternoons, 1:20 pm on 30 October 2017

Just a few weeks ago a kiwi doctor made the historic move of getting a line added to the decades old Declaration of Geneva, once known as the Hippocratic Oath.

The new line makes physicians promise to look after their own health as well as their patients.

The important addition came about after Dr Sam Hazledine started a petition, hoping to imporve the wellbeing of his colleagues. He'd seen burnout, suicide and mental health issues stemming from overwork too often.

He's now written a book about the very issue, looking at why doctors across the globe are so stressed, which has been launched today - called Medicine's Four Minute Mile: The Evolved Physicians Oath
