Today is World Hepatitis Day which also marks more than a year of funding in New Zealand for a drug which has cured up to 97 percent of patients with the Hepatitis C virus.
The effectiveness of the drug is leading to hope that hepatitis C could be eliminated globally by 2030.
Professor Ed Gane, Deputy Director and Chief Hepatologist at the New Zealand Liver Transplant Unit contributed to the development of the new medicine. He talks to Jesse about the wonder drug and the impact it has had.
