Steve Maharey is an independent director, commentator on social and political issues and consultant.
A former Labour Member of Parliament for Palmerston North he held various ministerial roles including Minister of Education and Minister of Social Developing and Employment.
He stood down as an MP before the 2008 general election and took up the role of Vice-Chancellor at Massey University.
His background is in sociology - with a particular speciality in social change and cultural studies, and since leaving Massey in 2016 he's been one of the leaders behind a national discussion about farming - and more specifically food.
