25 expelled students from Christchurch were taken to Nepal last year on an initiative from the YMCA to help turn their lives around, called Project Hope.

The journey was also filmed and has been made into a documentary.

The idea to go to Nepal was to get the troubled teens who had experienced the Christchurch earthquakes to help young people in Nepal in the aftermath of their devastating earthquake.

Josie Ogden Schroeder is the chief executive of the YMCA and a passionate advocate for giving these challenging teens a second chance.
