The small Bay of islands town of Paihia is about to get its first ever set of traffic lights, and some locals are not happy.
Jesse spoke to the manager of the Bay of Islands Swordfish Club, Dale Pullen, who is pleased the lights are going in. He also spoke with Jane Johnston from the Paihia Ratepayers Association, who says there has not been enough consultation.
The NZTA has sent us this response:
Members of the Paihia community were invited to a meeting to meet Transport Agency staff to discuss plans to improve safety at the pedestrian crossing.
While there are always various options available the Transport Agency has developed an appropriate response to the demands put on a single, busy crossing which is determined by the current infrastructure for disembarking cruise ship passengers.
