A lot of NZ's historical writing has focused on social liberalism and been written from a socially liberal perspective. Social conservatism has often been treated as a negative aspect of our society, especially by professional historians. Yet social conservatism has arguably been dominant over social liberalism in NZ until relatively recently. Victoria University historian, Grant Morris looks back.
