Kakapo Recovery Centre has six new Kakapo chicks

According to an early explorer Charles Douglas - the native Kakapo were so common that they would fall from trees like apples. In one of his anecdotes he speaks about shaking a Tutu bush and seeing six kakapo fall out. But with the introduction of predators in the 1800's the Kakapo very nearly become extinct. There are now 126 of these native birds alive and despite very few of us ever actually having seen one, last year the Kakapo was voted the 'World's Favourite Species'. Breeding season has just finished and the team at the Kakapo Recovery Centre are celebrating the arrival of six new chicks.
