1:17 Wintec students snapped by Huntly building company

A chance meeting at a hardware shop has led to 16 Wintec students landing jobs in Huntly.

Builtsmart owner Boydy Scott, happened to find a work experience student who's contact hadn't shown up and asked him to give him a hand instead.

That's led to a relationship with Wintec going on to get 16 other students apprenticeships at Builtsmart. Boydy talks to Jesse the youngsters training on the job and how valuable they are to his company

1:27 Stoat research published in NZ Journal of Ecology

Jesse first spoke to  Jamie McAulay years ago when he was in the early stages of researching the diets of alpine stoats, while a masters student at the University of Otago.

His research has just been published in the New Zealand Journal of Ecology.

Jesse catches up with Jamie to talk about what he found out and what it means for conservation

Singer songwriter, Hera Hjartardottir has spent the past two decades based in New Zealand, but touring the world with her guitar, supporting the likes of Nick Cave, Joe Cocker, Amanda Palmer, and the Dresden Dolls. Her latest  collection of songs, Hera, is recorded across the world, featuring musicians from Iceland, New Zealand, and the United States. The single ‘Process’ went to number one on the Icelandic radio charts.

Have you ever noticed the little translucent critters that leap about when you disturb sand at the beach? The native landhopper, Makawe hurleyi, sometimes called ‘lawn shrimp’, is the land-lubbing version of the beach hopper. A true ‘litter-critter’, it spends its short but important life munching detritus in our grasslands and forests.
