1:15 Grandparents struggling to raise grandchildren
David White's daughter was murdered, and he became a grandparent looking after grandchildren, on a second's notice. Research commissioned for support group Grandparents Raising Grandchildren, is the largest study ever conducted among full-time grandparents and other carers in New Zealand. It surveyed more than 1100 grandparents, great grandparents, and other non-parent caregivers between March and May this year. And showed nearly half the 1300 children were removed from their parents because of drug addiction. The findings are being launched and discussed at the Hear Our Voices: 4th National GRG Caregivers and Members Summit being held today in Auckland. David White is a trustee of Grandparents Raising Grandchildren.

1:25 Underwater Earthquake Observatory
The North Island's East Coast has been hit hard recently, with the 7.1 off-shore quake, and aftershocks that rattled the coast last week.
Scientists are trying to better understand undersea quakes, and in order to do so, they're creating an underwater earthquake observatory.
New Zealand will be one country taking part in the International Ocean Discovery Programme. GNS Science geophysicist, Laura Wallace, is the expedition's leader.

1:35 Sound Archives: 100th anniversary of NZ’s entry into the Western Front in WWI
On September 15 New Zealand marks the centenary of the New Zealand Division’s entry into fighting on the Somme in Northern France in 1916.
Commemorative services will be held in France on the 15th and on Sunday the 18th at Pukeahu National War Memorial in Wellington.
The National Archive of Film, Television and Sound - Ngā Taonga Sound & Vision also has a couple of activities planned to mark this centenary and Sarah Johnston from Ngā Taonga joins us to play some sound recordings related to the events of 100 years ago next week.

2:20 NZ Rugby wont take action against Chiefs
New Zealand Rugby will not take action following investigation into allegations of abuse made by a stripper at an end-of-year Chiefs function.
In August, a woman known as Scarlette, said while waitressing and performing as a stripper at an end-of-season party, players groped her, threw gravel and chanted lewdly at her.
RNZ reporter Max Towle spoke to us from the NZRU media conference.

3:10 Microbes Are Our Friends
Insides each of us, there are trillions of microbes.

These bacteria, fungi and viruses are on our hands, and face and in our gut.
In fact human cells make up only half our bodies and microbes make up the other half. Instead of being harmful, they help keep us healthy.
Science writer Ed Yong explains the vital role of these immigrant microbes and the unique ecosystem in our bodies in his new book I Contain Multitudes: The Microbes Within Us and a Grander View of Life
