On The Fence

2:10  Spider Fan - Brian Lawton: Yesterday, we spoke to spider expert Phil Sirvid about a potentially new species of spider that's been discovered in the Wairarapa. This spider has sparked a huge amount of interest with many people - who are surprised at just how big it appears to be. The photograph certainly seems to have got peoples' skin crawling, but not so much, for professional spider fan Brian Lawton, who's the live animal curator at the Auckland War Memorial Museum and also runs a business where he breeds spiders and other insects for films and commercials..

2:20  The Invictus Games - Karl Shearsby: Next month.. sees the inaugural Invictus Games take place in London. The games are an international sporting event for wounded, injured and sick servicemen and women from around the globe. Teams come from 14 different nations and from across all forces - army, navy and air force  - and the games are all about using sport as a way to inspire recovery and rehabilition for the armed service men and women who have served their countries. New Zealand has a team of twelve going to the games - including Karl Shearsby - a naval electronic warfare specialist - who will be competing in seven events - none of which he's actually had experience in!
