2:10 The White Island Eruption - GNS Volcanologist Steven Sherburn - Listeners in the Whakatane region might have been able to see plumes of white smoke issuing from their neighbourhood volcano this morning. GeoNet have confirmed that White Island erupted for about 10 minutes at around twenty past ten. The column of steam produced by the eruption rose about 2 kilometres above the island.
