Speedway legend Barry Briggs is back in New Zealand to visit his hometown of Christchurch and raise money for the Martinborough Fire Brigade. He's just completed The Pukemanu Adventure Motorcycle Ride to raise money for the brigade. Briggs is a four-time individual speedway World Champion. He's packed a lot into his 76 years, from teaching actor Steve McQueen to slide a speedway bike to losing his beloved wife to cancer. He tells his life story in his new book, Wembley and Beyond.

Mystery is afoot on the construction site of the Victoria Park Tunnel near Auckland's waterfront. An old pistol (below) has been found at the bottom of what was a well. The handle is rotted away, but archaeologists say the gun has been fired and may well have been a murder weapon.
