Sunscreen has long been recommended as a "precaution" against all skin cancers, but the science on its effect on melanoma alone has remained highly controversial. A new Australian study found people who were encouraged to slather on sunscreen in the 1990s were 50 percent less likely to develop melanoma 15 years later. The report by the Queensland Institute of Medical Research is the first to provide strong evidence that sunscreen can reduce deadly melanomas
