Sunscreen has long been recommended as a "precaution" against all skin cancers, but the science on its effect on melanoma alone has remained highly controversial. A new Australian study found people who were encouraged to slather on sunscreen in the 1990s were 50 percent less likely to develop melanoma 15 years later.
