The weather's held and the waves have been magic in Twizel, which has made for a winning week for the 18-hundred teenagers who've descended upon the region for the New Zealand secondary school's rowing championships.
Otherwise known as the Maadi Cup, the bi-annual event sees Twizel and nearby Ruataniwha overrun by around 6,000 competitors, parents and supporters, representing more than one hundred schools.
Tomorrow the event wraps up, probably much to the relief of locals who stock up on food and petrol supplies well before the start of the competition. At Twizel's Top Hat pub, business has been flat tack all week Tomorrow night it's playing host to the Maadi Cup party, and the proprietors are not too sure just what to expect. Publican is Mike Darling.

On Fresh Fast Food today executive chef at Auckland's premier Bracu restaurant Peter Thornley talks about his recent trip to Vietnam, where he returned with a recipe for vegetarian pork crackling just to horrify vegetarian friends. Thornley also talks about his planned trip in two weeks time to the World Gourmet Summit in Singapore, where he'll be working alongside the World's best chefs in some very unique locations - most notably perhaps, spending three days cooking in a zoo.
