Papua New Guinea finished as the top team in group B of the Oceania Qualifiers for the Women's Fifa World Cup.

They defeated Fiji 1-0 in Ba in a rescheduled match on Saturday, and will face group A runner-up American Samoa in the semifinal next month.

Group A winners New Zealand will meet Fiji in the other semifinal.

The winner of the final advances straight to the world cup, and the runner-up goes through to an inter-confederation play-off for a spot at the world meet.

League

The Storm's 48-point thrashing of the Eels on Thursday has given them a high goal differential and top spot on the NRL table after round one.

The Sharks, Panthers, Warriors and Knights make up the rest of the top five, also divided by goal difference after winning first-round matches.

The first round wrapped up on Sunday with the Rabbitohs beating the Dolphins 40-30.

Round two picks up on Thursday, with the Broncos hosting the Eels.

Rugby

Fijian rugby legend Pio Bosco Tikoisuva will be inducted to the 2026 Pasifika Rugby Hall of Fame next month.

The Pasifika Rugby Hall of Fame said the former player, who captained Fiji in the historic 25-21 victory over the British Lions in 1977, is one of four Pasifika legends to be inducted.

Others include former All Black Maiavatele Keven Mealamu, the late Jerry Collins, and former 'Ikale Tahi captain Fe'ao Vunipola.

The former players will be inducted in Auckland on 26 March.

Athletics

Cook Islands athlete Max Teuruaa broke his country's men's national 110-metre hurdles record at the Polynesian Track and Field Championships in Auckland on Sunday.

He recorded a new time of 15.34 seconds on his way to claiming the gold medal in the event.

He also set an earlier record of 15.57 seconds in his heat.

He also claimed a new Cook Islands record in the pole vault, clearing the bar at four metres.

Teuruaa said the achivements were for his family and country.

Meanwhile, Samoa's Olympian thrower, Alex Rose, has won the discus title.

Rose, who has competed both at the Olympics and World Championship for Samoa, threw the discus 62.77 metres.

Football

The OFC Pro League has become the first competition to implement FIFA's new on-pitch concussion assessment protocol.

OFC said that is a significant milestone in football's ongoing efforts to strengthen player welfare.

While the football-specific protocol has previously been announced by FIFA, its actual rollout is now taking place in Oceania.

FIFA's medical director Dr Andrew Massey was on hand during the OFC Pro League round three matches in Melbourne to oversee the implementation phase.

Fiji Sports Council

Two senior staffers at the Fiji Sports Council have been placed on leave, pending investigation into mismanagement.

FBC reported the council's board chairman Peter Mazey saying Australian finance company Pherrus will carry out investigations.

Mazey said a total of 16 allegations will be investigated, following news that FICAC had initially cleared one of the staff of any wrongdoing last month.
