The chair of the Pacific Islands Forum has announced details of key regional meetings ahead of the COP 31 climate summit later this year.
Jeremiah Manele, who is also the Solomon Islands Prime Minister, said the meeting will be held in Fiji in October, with a special Leaders component to be held in Tuvalu.
This will follow a special climate event convened as part of the annual Pacific Forum Leaders Meeting in Palau in early September.
Manele said the Palau meeting would be a "pivotal moment" for the region to consolidate its position and align expectations for COP.
After Austalia and the Pacific were pipped by Türkiye to be the hosts of COP31, it was agreed the Pacific would host pre-COP events, ahead of the world summit in November
"Pre-COP is a chance to show that when it comes to climate change, the most vulnerable nations can lead, and the world's most powerful nations can listen" Manele said.
"I thank the Government of Australia for their support to the region through this process.
"The Forum Family stands ready to support the Governments of Palau, Fiji, Tuvalu in their hosting responsibilities, recognising the deep experience that the region has in the COP climate process and the hosting of world class events."
