New Zealand's Governor-General has shared a message from King Charles to the people of Tokelau on the 100th anniversary of the constitutional relationship between Tokelau and New Zealand.

Dame Cindy Kiro is visiting Tokelau as the non self-governing territory marks the centenary, having travelled on the New Zealand naval vessel HMNZS Canterbury.

In his message, the King said he and his wife reflected on fond and lasting memories of meeting members of the Tokelau community in New Zealand.

King Charles said on this milestone anniversary, he hoped all Tokelauns could take pride in their nation's voyage over the past 100 years and their many achievements in that time.

"The Tokelauan voice is vital on the global stage, reminding the world of the urgency with which we must all act to ensure that the rich natural beauty and vibrant cultural heritage not only of your nation, but also of so many small island states around the world, continue to thrive in the years to come."
