League

Papua New Guinea is seeking a new women's rugby league coach to take the Orchids to next year's World Cup.

The Papua New Guinea Rugby Football League announced Tahnee Norris would not continue as head coach by mutual agreement.

Its chairman, Sandis Tsaka, said Norris has played a pivotal role not only in leading the Orchids but also in developing the women's game across the country.

The 2026 Rugby League World Cup will be hosted in Papua New Guinea, Australia and Christchurch.

Rugby

Rugby Australia has confirmed the Wallaroos women's team will meet the Fijiana XV in Canberra on 27 March for the Vuvale Trophy clash.

The Fiji Sun reported the game will kick off the new 2026 international season for both teams.

But while the Wallaroos have confirmed a 10-test schedule the new season, Fiji Rugby have not been able to confirm the Fijiana 2026 schedule yet.

The ARU said Wallaroos have their first-ever USA tour confirmed and a three-match series in the UK and Europe.

Football

Fiji's Bula FC has signed England-based defender Scott Wara ahead of the new Oceania Football Confederation Pro League in January.

FBC reported Wara, who has played football in Ireland as well, is the club's 17th player.

Wara said he is excited about signing a professional contract with Bula FC and is looking forward to contributing to their campaign.

Nineteen-year-old Australia-based Zacariah Harang has also signed with the team.

Bula FC will meet Vanuatu United in the opening match of the new OFC Pro League on 17 January at Eden Park.

Meanwhile, Vanuatu United has signed two new additions - 31-year-old goalkeeper Karolan Firiam and assistant coach Richard Iwai have joined the club.

The Vanuatu Daily Post reported Firiam is a goalkeeper for the Vanuatu national team, while Iwai coached Vanuatu to winning the Melanesian Cup men's title last month.

Cricket

The Papua New Guinea Lewas women's cricket team won four out of seven matches at the recent Emerging Nations Trophy in Thailand.

Cricket PNG said the team won against Thailand, Namibia, Tanzania and Netherlands.

The team is now back in Port Moresby and preparing for practice matches in Australia later this month, before leaving for Nepal for a T20 World Cup qualifying event in February, 2026.

Meanwhile, the men's team is also in training for a Twenty20 World Cup qualifier in Japan next May.

Powerlifting

Vanuatu para powerlifter Marek Sahi has secured her first step into making the 2026 Commonwealth Games.

The Vanuatu Daily Post reported Sahi has made the long-list following impressive performances at the 2025 Para Powerlifting Melbourne Open.

Sahi competed against several Australian athletes as well as lifters from Solomon Islands in the F40 classification.

Team Manager Seleana Enrel said Sahi has the chance to improve at another competition in February 2026.

Rugby

Outgoing Fijian Drua chief executive Mark Evans says the franchise team can win the Super Rugby Pacific title.

In his departing message to the club officials, players and sponsors, Evans said it will take time and patience to achieve that dream.

FBC reported Evans saying the club has contributed a lot to Fiji Rugby, especially in having their players turn out for both of Fiji's two national teams, the Flying Fijians and the Fijiana.

He is being replaced as CEO by former Wallabies flanker Jeff Miller.

Basketball

Cook Islands and Samoa have qualified for the second division of the Under-18 Women's Asia Cup basketball tournament, next year in Thailand.

This follows their top-four finish at the FIBA Under-17 Women's Oceania Cup in Apia.

Cook Islands finished third behind Australia and New Zealand, following their 58-54 win over Samoa in the third-place playoff.

Samoa finished fourth ahead of Fiji in fifth and Guam in sixth place.
