Papua New Guinea cricketer Kipling Doringa has been jailed for three years in Jersey after he was found guilty of robbing a woman during the PNG team's tour in August.
Cricket PNG says the 30-year-old was caught on camera and pleaded guilty to the case.
The cricket association says while they do not condone the act, they have been supporting the player and keeping regular checks on him.
Doringa was sentenced on 28 November.
"Doringa was charged and sentence to there years after he robbed a female under liquor at night and was caught on public camera during the Barramundis Jersey Tour," Cricket PNG said in response to questions from RNZ Pacific.
"He was caught red handed so he had to plead guilty to get less years.
"Cricket PNG is still supportive. We have from day one of his arrest provided a good lawyer and have continued checks with authority in Jersey."
Cricket PNG says the incident has forced them to review their selections and their systems, adding they will not condone such practices.
"We do understand that one team player's wrong carries the whole team and country's name with it," the association said.
"We hope this passes so everyone will not see this as the whole Team PNG's behaviour. The team has been down because of this publicity as we need the team, happy and ready for their next tour."
The Barramundis competed at the 2025 Jersey Cricket World Cup Challenge League A competition on the tour, which was part of the 2027 Cricket World Cup qualifiers.
