The Fiji Bulikula have qualified for the women's Rugby League World Cup for the first time.

The Bulikula beat Nigeria 62-4 on Monday morning to earn the eight and final place at next year's tournament.

Head coach Joe Dakuitoga said this is a proud moment for Fiji Rugby League and for women in sport.

"These girls have shown what commitment and belief can achieve, and they've made the entire nation proud."

The Bulikula previously thrashed Canada 48-0 in the semifinal of their World Series competition to set up the play-off against Nigeria for the berth at the World Cup.

The other teams qualified for the women's 2026 edition are Australia, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, England, France, Wales and Samoa.

On the men's side, the Cook Islands Aitu are playing off for one of two remaining spots.

Ten teams will contest for the men's trophy, and the quarterfinalists from the 2022 tournament have already qualified - Australia, Samoa, New Zealand, England, Lebanon, Tonga, Fiji and Papua New Guinea.

The Aitu face South Africa in Sydney on 9 November for a place at the 2026 tournament.

First held in France in 1954, the Rugby League World Cup is the second-oldest sporting world cup after the FIFA World Cup.
