Fiji's netball community is anxiously awaiting news of a former national team captain and coach who was reported missing on Saturday after a suspected drowning incident while gathering freshwater mussels.

Unaisi Rokoura, 47, represented the Fiji Pearls at two Commonwealth Games and two Netball World Cups as a player. She had two stints as the Pearls' head coach and also coached the Papua New Guinea Pepes from 2015 to 2017.

Local media report that Rokoura was with three other women collecting mussels near Navuso Agriculture School in Naitasiri province, in Fiji's Central Division.

According to reports, one woman - a 34-year-old - was trying to hold on to Rokoura, and both subsequently disappeared.

Police have confirmed that they recovered the body of the 34-year-old woman. A post-mortem examination will be conducted on Monday.

Police said the search for Rokoura is ongoing, with divers from the Mobile Force and the Fiji Navy currently deployed.
