The Flying Fijians have maintained their ninth place in the World Rugby rankings, following their victorious Pacific Nations Cup campaign.

But the side still remains below Scotland, who they beat in Suva before the series kicked off.

Samoa is at 16th while Tonga is now 18th.

In the women's competition, Fiji is at 13th spot, behind Wales who they beat at the Women's Rugby World Cup, while Manusina Samoa is 15th and Tonga 26th.

World champions England top the women's standings while South Africa is world number one on the men's side.

Former Manu Samoa captain Filipo Levi says players available to play for the Manus should put the team first, with one more chance for them to qualify for the 2027 Rugby World Cup.

Levi, a 25-cap forward, made the call on his social media platform as Manu Samoa prepares for the final qualification tournament in Dubai next month.

Manu Samoa have not won a test in six outings under new coach Lemalu Tusi Pisi this year.

Levi said with one more chance to qualify in the last remaining spot of the 2027 Rugby World Cup, he is hoping that players will come forward to represent Samoa.

League

The Fiji women's rugby league side will miss this year's Pacific Championships series because of their world cup qualification campaign.

The Bulikulas are heading to Canada to compete in the Women's Rugby League World Series.

They will play Canada in a sudden-death semi-final on 21 October in Brampton, Ontario.

If they win, they will meet the winner of the other semifinal, betwen Ireland and Nigeria, for a spot at next year's World Cup in Australia and Papua New Guinea.

League

The Papua New Guinea Kumuls are set to be strengthened by a number of NRL players when they defend their Pacific Bowl title at the rugby league Pacific Championships.

The Kumuls will host the event in Port Moresby, and will meet Fiji and the Cook Islands in round-robin matches.

The National reported Gold Coast Titans prop Cooper Bai is poised to make his debut for the Kumuls.

Other top players confirmed for the Kumuls include the South Sydney Rabbitohs' Alex Johnston and Titans player Jacob Alick.

Lachlan Lam, who plays for the Leigh Leopards in the Super League, is also set to be available.
