Sixteen-year-old Fijian weightlifter Nehemiah Elder has claimed three gold medals at the IWF World Youth Championship in Lima, Peru.

FijiLive reported he is the first Fijian lifter to win gold at any World Championship event.

Competing in the men's 89kg, Elder won the snatch with a lift of 152kg, the clean and jerk with 180kg, and a total of 332kg.

He finished first overall out of 12 competitors in the youth category, and 11th out of 20 in the junior division.

Rugby

Media reports have stated that there is a likelihood of an America team being added to the Super Rugby Pacific competition.

The Roar website reported World Rugby chairman Brett Robinson and CEO Alan Gilpin met with officials in Los Angeles about the proposal last weekend.

New Zealand Rugby CEO Mark Robinson said discussions were taking place, with the proposed inclusion to take the competition back to 12 teams.

Super Rugby had in the past included clubs from South Africa and a team each from Argentina and Japan in the competition.

Football

A lot of goals are being scored in the Oceania women's league, with an 11-0 win for Auckland United FC on Monday, Tahiti time.

Zoe Benson put five of those goals past AS Pirae.

It follows previous scores of 12-0 - Hekari United over PanSa - and 5-0 - Henderson Eels over Tupapa Maraerenga FC.

On Tuesday local time, Ba from Fiji faces Henderson from Solomon Islands.

Futsal

José Gerardo from Portugal has been appointed as Fiji's futsal coach.

The 63-year-old recently returned from coaching the national team of Kuwait, and has also coached in multiple places in Europe.

Fiji Football Association CEO Mohammad Yusuf said Gerardo aims to spend three years developing futsal in Fiji.

Gerardo told FBC Sports there is a lot of natural talent in Fiji but they will have to start with the basics to get their skills right.

He said the Fiji football technical team has done a great job so far and he hopes to continue the development.

Football

American Samoa have qualified for an Oceania Football tournament for the first time.

The under-16 team claimed a 5-4 victory over the Cook Islands in a qualifier game, in Rarotonga on Saturday.

They will now compete at the OFC Under-16 Women's Championship later this year.
