Cabinet lineup of new Tuvalu government unveiled

Tuvalu's new prime minister Feleti Teo has named his deputy, a former senior government official, Panapasi Nelesone as the minister of finance and development.

Paulson Panapa is the minister for foreign affairs, labour, and trade.

Dr Maina Vakafua Talia has been named minister for home affairs, climate change, and environment.

The former foreign minister, Simon Kofe, is now the minister for transport, energy, communication, and innovation, while former ombudsman, Sa'aga Talu Teafa, will lead the Ministry for Natural Resources Development.

Tuafafa Latasi is health and social welfare minister while Hamoa Holona will have the education and human resources development portfolios.

No women have been elected this time around.

A government spokesperson says Puakena Boreham was the only woman minister in the last government as has not been not reelected.

The Speaker of Parliament Sir Iakoba Taeia was elected on Tuesday via an uncontested ballot, as only one candidate was nominated for the position.
