Samoa and the Fijiana women's team could be forced to play in the World Rugby Sevens promotion and elimination play-off in Madrid, Spain later in the year, if they do not lift their current performance.
The Samoans did not make it into the last eight at the past weekend's Perth Sevens tournament and finished 10th overall after they lost to New Zealand 21-14 in the ninth-place play-off.
They are currently ninth on the HSBC Sevens Series points table after three rounds, with 14 points.
In Perth, the Samoans were pooled with Fiji, New Zealand and France and finished the pool matches without a win. They narrowly lost to Fiji and New Zealand but were well beaten by France.
The Fijiana have dropped to seventh position on the points table.
They were beaten by eventual Perth women's title winners Ireland in the quarterfinals and then were thrashed 26-5 by Canada in the seventh-place play-off.
They also risk the possibility of losing their placing if they do not improve and are placed below eighth position after the Singapore 7s tournament.
Both Samoa and Fijiana have four more tournament where they will need to improve their performances.
Four teams from the current series will have to go through the promotion and relegation series from 31 May - 2 June.
With the new format being used since the Dubai event last December all 12 teams will have to fight for the top eight spots on the points table, with the bottom four automatically dropping to the promotion and relegation play-off.
Twelve teams each in the men's and women's competition are competing in the World Rugby Sevens Challenger series with the top four teams getting the opportunity to compete at the Madrid play-off for promotion as a core team.

Fiji title drought continues
The Fiji men's side remain in second spot on the points table despite not winning any tournament title for the last 17 tournaments.
Coach Ben Gollings has been under fire from Fiji rugby fans with calls for him to be sacked because of the no title record so far in the World Rugby Sevens series.
Despite finishing fourth in Perth on Sunday, the Fiji men's team held on to their second spot with 44 points, 14 behind current leaders Argentina.
Fiji won all their pool matches on Friday and Saturday, accounting for Samoa, France and New Zealand.
They also defeated South Africa in the quarterfinals but went down 22-7 to Australia in the semi-finals.
Ireland defeated them 24-7 in the bronze play-off.
Argentina continue their lead in the men's competition with 58 points, after having won both the Capetown and Perth 7s titles and finishing second in Dubai.
They defeated Australia 31-5 on Sunday night.
Losing Perth finalists Australia are tied with Fiji on 44 points.
New Zealand, who failed to make it into the quarterfinals in Perth, sit on sixth spot with 32 points.
Australia leads the women's competition despite losing to Ireland in the Perth final, with 58 points while New Zealand are on second at 46 points.
Ireland, who defeated Australia 19-14 in the women's final in Perth have replaced Fiji at fourth spot on the points table with 38 points to their name.
