Vanuatu football captain and Central Coast Mariners star Brian Kaltak has been recognised by the national government following his stellar year.
Kaltak received the National Honour Second Class Medal from Vanuatu President Nikinike Vurobaravu in recognition of his international and domestic success.
Last month, Kaltak was part of the Mariners' A-League Grand Final victory against Melbourne City, becoming the first Pacific player to win the biggest prize in Australian football.
On the international scene, Kaltak was a key figure as Vanuatu played three overseas friendlies in June, including a 1-0 victory over Mongolia in India.
During the medal award ceremony, Vurobaravu spoke highly of Kaltak's accomplishments and acknowledged his inspiring influence on the nation.
The President said Kaltak serves as a role model for aspiring athletes and a source of inspiration for the entire country.
As Kaltak accepted the medal, he expressed gratitude to his supporters and the people of Vanuatu.
He acknowledged the immense support he received throughout his career and pledged to continue representing his country with passion and determination.
In attendance at the ceremony were Prime Minister Alatoi Ishmael Kalsakau Mwaukoro, Malvatumauri Chairman Chief Willie Plasua Gray, Lord Mayor of Port Vila Steve Kiel, and Australia's High Commissioner to Vanuatu, Heidi Bootle.
Representatives from the Ministry of Sports and Youth Development and the Vanuatu Football Federation, as well as members of Erakor Village and the management and players of Erakor Golden Star FC, were also present.
Earlier this year Kaltak signed a contract extension with the Central Coast Mariners that takes him through to 2025.
