Fiji's prime minister Sitiveni Rabuka has confirmed the government is set to hold a national economic summit in April.

In his second post-cabinet meeting press update on Wednesday, he said the two-day forum "will create a collective national vision" for the government "to chart a path towards economic recovery".

The summit is expected to be a key initiative by the coalition in its efforts to rebuild the country's economic fortunes through consultation and collaboration.

Rabuka said as Fiji moves into an era of change, engaging with all segments of society is essential to achieve the coalition government's overarching objectives.

"These include inclusive economic security, social justice, conscientious governance, political stability, inclusive participation in development, and environmental sustainability," he said.

Rabuka said the summit will be spearheaded by the finance ministry under the proposed theme "reshaping our future through genuine dialogue and collaboration".
