The Papua New Guinea women's team was unable to complete its final fixture of the Pacific Four Nations football tournament being held in Canberra.

The PNG Football Association advised Football Australia that six players were unfit to play against the Australia U-20 side.

It ends a miserable tournament for PNG which lost 2-0 to Fiji and 3-0 to Solomon Islands.

The tournament was supposed to provide the team with valuable preparation ahead of the Women's World Cup playoffs in New Zealand in February.

They play Panama in Auckland and if they succeed in that game, play either Paraguay or Taiwan for a place in the World Cup being co-hosted by New Zealand and Australia in mid 2023.

For this tournament Percy Mataio was acting head coach, but a new coach is expected to be unveiled soon.

PNG is due to play the Philippines in two friendly matches in Sydney next month.

Meanwhile, Fiji and Solomon Islands rounded off the Four Nations with a one-all draw yesterday.

The Solomons, on account of their 3-0 win over PNG on Friday, finished second ahead of Fiji on goal difference with the Young Matildas winning the event after two wins.
