Former Fiji MP Salote Radrodro has been sentenced to two-and-a-half years' jail for corruption.

Radrodro, who was a member of the opposition Sodelpa party, was convicted of giving false information to a public servant and one count of obtaining a financial advantage.

She falsely stated that her permanent place of residence was in Namulomulo Village, Nabouwalu, Bua and obtained $37,920.13 in parliamentary allowances between August 2019 and April 2020.

The court found her guilty of the charges earlier this month.

She is the latest of three former MPs to have been sent to prison on corruption charges.

On August 16, former MP and Sports Minister, Tui Namosi Ratu Suliano Matanitoba, received a three-year term for providing false information to a public servant.

The final six months of Radrodro's sentence have been suspended for a probation period of five years.
