Fiji: 7 deaths, 156 new cases in last 7 days

Seven people in Fiji have died from Covid-19 in the past week.

Fiji's government has also confirmed 156 new cases in the same period.

All but four of the latest victims were vaccinated against Covid-19.

Health Secretary Dr James Fong said there are 141 patients in isolation.

He said 93 percent of the adult population is fully vaccinated against Covid-19, and more than 42-thousand children aged 12 to 17 are also fully vaccinated.

Fiji has had 63,406 cases since March 2020 with the death toll at 820.

New Caledonia records over 3000 Covid-19 cases in 72 hours

New Caledonia health authorities say there were another 3,343 Covid-19 cases recorded over the past 72 hours.

The figures show another rise in cases of the virus after a small drop last week.

The Omicron variant was first detected in early January and daily infection numbers have grown more than tenfold in the past month.

53 people are in hospital, including four in intensive care.

Since September. almost 40,000 people have contracted the virus, and about 25,000 are considered to have recovered.

As of today, the health pass, which is needed to access a range of venues, is only valid for people who have received the booster shot.

So far, 73,000 people have received a third jab.

Tahiti has over 6000 active Covid-19 cases

There have been 1,602 cases recorded in French Polynesia over the past 72 hours.

This compares with more than 2,800 cases during the preceding two days.

The number of active cases has risen to 6,281.

Hospitalisation has grown as there are now 20 Covid-19 patients, including five in intensive care.

A further 41 people, who tested positive for the virus, are in hospital for other ailments.

Vaccinations have continued and just over 79 percent of those 12 years and older have been fully vaccinated, while inoculations have been started for children five years and older.

The French vaccine pass is needed to enter venues, restricting the options of those who decline vaccinations.

Solomon Islands Covid-19 cases is over 4000

The Solomon Islands Covid-19 cases now stands at 4,827.

On Monday, 202 new positive cases were recorded in a 24 hour period.

The Minister of Health and Medical Services Dr Culwick Togamana gave the update during his daily Covid-19 situation update on the national broadcaster SIBC.

Of the 4,827 cases, 3,810 cases are recorded in Honiara, while 1,017 are recorded in the provinces.

Meanwhile, an Australian Medical Assistance Team (AUSMAT) is currently assisting the Solomon Islands Health Ministry to conduct a rapid assessment of provincial health systems this week.
