Further talks are expected at French Polynesia's presidency tomorrow to try to end an open-ended public and private sector general strike launched last Thursday.

After yesterday's negotiations, the government said agreement had been reached on all main points, except over the make-up of the administration of the CPS social welfare agency.

The government insists that employee representatives may not make up more than a third, while the unions want majority control.

A preliminary deal suggests that a fund will be created in 2023 for those who lose their jobs.

The strike has been observed by few union members and there have been only minor disruptions.

Air traffic has been maintained, apart from services to Raiatea.

Hundreds of strikers marched onto the seat of government late last week, demanding the withdrawal of the law making Covid-19 vaccinations compulsory.
