Manu Samoa lock Theo McFarland has signed a long-term contract with English Premiership newcomers Saracens.

The 25 year old second rower made his international debut against the Māori All Blacks in June and played in both tests against Tonga last month which secured Samoa's spot at the 2023 Rugby World Cup.

"When I heard I was gonna join the Saracens I was buzzing," he told the Saracens website.

"It's a huge honour to be looked at by one of the top rugby clubs in the world. Not everyone gets a chance to play for a club like Saracens. I can't wait to join the pack and be part of the Sarries family."

McFarland signed for the Dallas Jackals Major League Rugby side last year but the expansion franchise announced in January it was postponing its debut season in the US top flight until 2022.

Saracens Director of Rugby Mark McCall is looking forward to McFarland's arrival in North London.

"We are excited to watch Theo develop here at Saracens. He is clearly a very talented athlete and we will look to unlock his potential during what we hope will be a very successful period for him."

McFarland, who has also represented Samoa in basketball, will be able to learn from the best at his new club, with England and British and Irish Lions star Maro Itoje also on the books at the StoneX Stadium.

Five-time Premiership winners Saracens are back in the top flight after winning promotion from the Championship last season. They face Bristol Bears in their season opener on 17 September.
