Almost a quarter of Fiji's troops abroad have contracted Covid-19.

The military commander Rear Admiral Viliame Naupoto told FBC News that 110 of the 476 peacekeepers sent on UN missions have the virus.

He said 90 of them are in Iraq and the others on the Sinai peninsula.

Rear Admiral Naupoto said 41 of them were close to completing their isolation period.

He told the broadcaster that a soldier died but initial information suggested the death was not related to the pandemic.
