The US has announced $US200,000 in additional funding to Fiji for recovery efforts following Cyclone Yasa.

Last month's category five cyclone resulted in several deaths, dozens of destroyed homes and buildings, and devastation to crops on Vanua Levu.

The additional funding brings the total emergency assistance from the US Agency for International Development to approximately US$300,000
The funds are to bolster the ability of humanitarian partner agencies on the ground in some of the communities worst affected by Yasa.
The agencies include the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies as well as their local partner the Fiji Red Cross Society.
"They are one of the first responders on the front lines, helping the most vulnerable hit hardest, who can be at risk of being forgotten," said the US Ambassador to Fiji, Joseph Cella.
"The Fijian people have shown tremendous strength and resilience in both preparing for and limiting casualties during Cyclone Yasa, and we are proud to remain strong partners on this journey to self-reliance and resilience.
"I am grateful for our continued strong and historic partnership with the Red Cross, a storied institution for which I hold in the highest regard."
