The French airforce provided a Casa transport plane to pick the three up in Rarotonga where they had been stuck for eight months.

In March, borders closed and commercial flights ceased to operate.

Before the flight, the three passengers had to prove that they were free of Covid-19 despite the Cook Islands never recording a single case.

Reports say with the return of the three, no more French Polynesians are stranded abroad.
