The Covid-19 cases in the Northern Marianas have almost hit 100 with two more incoming passengers testing positive for the coronavirus.

Health authorities say the two people were identified via travel screenings and confirmed through fifth-day testing.

The two have now been placed into isolation at the Alternate Care Site in Kanoa Resort.

Out of the 98 total confirmed cases, 72 have been incoming passengers, 35 from the US mainland, 26 from Guam and 11 from foreign countries.

Meanwhile Saipan Mayor David Apatang has proposed that the CNMI open borders for tourists from countries that are not Covid-19 hotspots.

The Marianas Visitors Authority earlier said that it was planning to set up a tourism bubble between the CNMI and markets like Korea that have controlled the coronavirus.

However Korea has since been hit with more cases.
