A $US4.77 million dollar grant was approved by PNG's former Peter O'Neill-led government in 2015 in a bid to upgrade tourism infrastructure in the province.

But the president of the provincial chamber, David Stein, said the funds never materialised for East New Britain's tourism industry.

A police fraud squad team conducted the investigation, but Mr Stein said that process hasn't been completed.

"We need the fraud squad to come back to East New Britain as soon as possible and complete that investigation, and give a report," David Stein said.

"So that the people of East New Britain know what has happened to the twenty million kina that was given by the national government for tourism funding and it hasn't met the mark," he said.

Meanwhile, EMTV reports that the provincial administration has been tight-lipped on the matter.
