Runoff race looks likely for Guam's congressional seat

Unofficial election results in Guam show incumbent delegate Michael San Nicolas leading the three-way race for the US Congress, with 45.95 percent of the votes cast, but a runoff is possible..

The winning candidate needs a majority to take the seat.

Pacific Islands News reports the unofficial results from the Guam Election Commission, San Nicolas garnered 13,000 votes, while fellow Democrat, Robert Underwood has 9,300 votes or 32.87 percent.

The Republican candidate Wil Castro got 5,942 votes, 21 percent.

San Nicolas and Underwood were initially scheduled to face off in the Aug. 29 primary, which, was cancelled due to last minute restrictions prompted by the new surge in Covid-19 cases.

As a result, all three candidates went into the general election.
