New Zealand's Minister for Pacific Peoples says the theme for Fiji language this week reflects the strong belief by the islanders that their culture inspires courage and strength.
Fijian Language Week - Macawa Ni Vosa Vakaviti - was launched online by the Whanganui Fijian community.
"Noqu Vosa, Noqu iSema Bula" in English means "My Language, My Living Link" is this year's theme, highlighting the resilience of the Fijian community in Aotearoa New Zealand according to Minister, Aupito William Sio.

"This theme is also strongly needed in times of emergencies and significant challenge like the global Covid-19 pandemic," he said.
"Covid-19 has challenged all New Zealanders, and our ability to communicate with Pacific peoples of Aotearoa in their own languages has been critical in providing confidence and certainty to our communities in our fight to stop the spread of the virus and keep everyone safe."
According to the 2013 New Zealand Census, an estimated 14,445 of people identify themselves as Fijian - a number that number has doubled since the 2001 Census.
The minister said New Zealand has shown Pacific peoples the respect Kiwis hold for them and their cultures
"This was evident in the government delivering nine Pacific language weeks across the country and media platforms to support the islanders be informed, resilient and united against the pandemic."

Aupito said helping Pacific communities embrace digital platforms and new technologies as the new tools for connecting and engaging with families and friends has enabled everyone to continue to practice their languages and cultures despite "Covid-19 preventing us from celebrating face-to-face.
"I encourage all our Pacific youth to utilise these digital tools during the Fijian Language Week so they can generate innovation that will accelerate the revitalisation, growth and strength of our Pacific languages," he said.
Aupito said the ministry is currently administrating Pacific language funds to support providers and groups deliver Pacific language community projects aimed at the growth and retention of Pacific languages.
"One of Aotearoa New Zealand's greatest treasures is its diversity of languages and cultures.
"Our collective effort to nurture our Pacific languages not only boosts the confidence and well-being of our Pacific peoples but enriches our nation's cultural capital."
As part of the weeklong celebrations, Fijians will also mark their 50th independence anniversary on Saturday 10 October.
Aupito said Fiji's 50th anniversary is a significant celebration and a good way to mark the eighth year since the Fijian Language Week became part of the Pacific Language Weeks programme in New Zealand.
Fijian Language Week will run from 4 October to 10.
